DVLA Certificates
V750 Certificate of Entitlement
A V750 Certificate of Entitlement is issued for registration marks that have never been assigned to a vehicle. The certificate confirms the holder’s entitlement to the registration mark for a period of 12 months. The registration mark must be assigned to a vehicle within the 12-month period. If the registration mark is not assigned to a vehicle an extension to the Certificate of entitlement should be applied for from the DVLA.
A V778 Retention Certificate
A V778 Retention Certificate is issued for registration marks that have previously been used on a vehicle. The certificate is valid for 12-months and confirms the holder’s entitlement to the registration mark. The registration mark should be assigned to a vehicle or an extension for a further 12 months should be applied for from the DVLA.

A V778/1 Retention Certificate Application Form is used to remove a registration mark from a vehicle and place it on a V778 Retention Certificate.
