Private and personalised number plates.

People like to have their name or initials on their number plate. Personalised plates can be purchased from DVLA or from private number plate brokers. There are a few rules involved when purchasing private number plates such as;

1) A personalised number plate should never make the vehicle you are registering the number plate to look newer than it actually is, you are not able put a 53 plate on a 2001 vehicle, but you can put it on a vehicle that is newer than when the registration mark was issued.

2) You are not allowed to alter the number plate letters or numbers in any way at all.

3) If a vehicle is for sale with a private number plate on, you will need to check if the number plate is to stay on the vehicle or if the current owner has applied to place it on a retention document in which case the number plate will be taken off the vehicle and DVLA will then issue a replacement number plate for the vehicle. This will be an age related registration mark in accordance with DVLA rules.
