CAR number plates have become the latest target for thieves in the Runcorn and Widnes area, say police. More than 100 have been stolen in Widnes from vehicles of all shapes and sizes during the past year.
To combat the racket, 300 sets of special anti-theft screws, costing £1,000, have been funded by the Safer Halton Partnership.
Residents in Riverside, Ditton and Hough Green, hotspot for the thefts, can now apply for the free screws at Halfords in the Windmill Centre, on a first come, first served basis. Take along proof of your address, insurance, log book and tax disc.
